This piece accompanies a written testimony.

This work exists For The Animals, not as symbol, not as metaphor, and not as an expression of personal gain.

The wider record is preserved as each letter is released, with access shared through Letters of Witness.

Each testimony image is intentionally framed with a clean, light border as part of the record, and the embroidered emblem is individually executed on every made-to-order garment, with natural variation in thread colour and finish.

Mock-up imagery is illustrative. Slight variations may occur in the final garment, reflecting its individual production.

A Statement Against Violence Disguised as Tradition

This women’s tee confronts bullfighting as a system of ritualised cruelty, a practice sustained not by necessity, but by spectacle, profit, and cultural protection. It exposes violence repeatedly defended as heritage while relying on fear, exhaustion, and prolonged suffering inflicted upon a sentient being.

Bullfighting is not a contest of bravery or skill. It is a carefully engineered process designed to weaken, injure, and ultimately kill an animal for public entertainment. The bull enters the arena already condemned, denied choice, escape, or mercy from the moment the gates close behind him.

Lances are driven into muscle to damage ligaments and force the head downward. Barbed sticks are embedded repeatedly to increase blood loss, pain, and disorientation. By the time the final act is performed, the bull is already collapsing under cumulative trauma, his instinct to survive misrepresented as aggression, his suffering transformed into spectacle.

This violence is not incidental. It is foundational. Bullfighting depends on the systematic denial of the bull’s sentience in order to preserve the illusion of honour, bravery, and tradition.

The Image as Witness

Rendered in vintage sepia, the illustration captures a moment shaped entirely by imbalance and coercion. The muted tones strip away theatrical colour and nostalgia, refusing the romanticised imagery often used to sanitise the arena.

The composition centres vulnerability rather than performance, a solitary animal facing a system designed to dominate, exhaust, and destroy him for public approval. By removing spectacle, the image forces attention onto the cost borne by the bull, rather than the ceremony surrounding him.

It stands not as a celebration, but as a record, bearing witness to suffering deliberately hidden behind ritual and applause.

A Measure of Courage

“True courage is measured not by conquering another life, but by defending it.”

This statement dismantles the mythology at the heart of bullfighting. It rejects the idea that dominance, harm, or control can ever constitute strength. Instead, it redefines courage as restraint, empathy, and the refusal to participate in violence for entertainment or pride.

Within the context of this campaign, the message challenges inherited narratives that celebrate cruelty when it is wrapped in ceremony or cultural defence. It asks the wearer and the viewer to reconsider what bravery truly means when power is no longer measured by the ability to wound, but by the willingness to protect.

The creator witnessing this devastation, mourns the loss of its ancient creatures and holds humanity accountable.

Each piece stands as A Declaration of Freedom for All Beings, rejecting tradition as justification for cruelty and refusing violence preserved for spectacle, tourism, or profit.

Campaign Colour & Vintage Core Options

This design is anchored in its dedicated campaign colour: Black, and is also available in four shared Vintage Sepia core colours.

Black represents finality, erasure, and moral void, the colour of death rendered absolute, of lives extinguished under the guise of tradition and honour. It reflects the moment where spectacle gives way to consequence, where blood, ritual, and applause fall silent, leaving only loss.

In contrast to the performative reds historically associated with bullfighting, black removes drama entirely. It refuses pageantry, symbolism, and celebration, grounding the campaign in mourning, accountability, and the irreversible outcome of violence. It is the colour of what remains when tradition can no longer excuse harm.

Wear Your Values

This is a refusal to mistake cruelty for culture.
A stand against violence preserved through ceremony and applause.
A declaration that empathy must outweigh tradition.

Wear your values in defence of compassion over dominance, accountability over spectacle, and the right of all beings to live without being sacrificed for entertainment.
