This piece accompanies a written testimony.
This work exists For The Animals, not as symbol, not as metaphor, and not as an expression of personal gain.
The wider record is preserved as each letter is released, with access shared through Letters of Witness.
Each testimony image is intentionally framed with a clean, light border as part of the record, and the embroidered emblem is individually executed on every made-to-order garment, with natural variation in thread colour and finish.
Mock-up imagery is illustrative. Slight variations may occur in the final garment, reflecting its individual production.
A Statement Against Lives Lived in Confinement
This women’s tee confronts the reality of industrial poultry farming, a system where life is engineered for output rather than wellbeing, and where sentient beings are treated as inventory from the moment they exist. Within these operations, birds are not recognised as individuals with instincts, awareness, or needs, but as units to be optimised, depleted, and replaced.
Chickens and other birds are selectively bred for unnaturally rapid growth or relentless egg production, forcing bodies to develop faster than their skeletal and organ systems can support. They are confined by the thousands inside vast sheds where movement is restricted, natural behaviours are suppressed, and rest offers little relief. Many never experience daylight, fresh air, soil, or space, their entire lives unfolding within enclosed environments designed solely to maximise yield in the shortest possible time.
Suffering is systemic and continuous. Genetic strain, overcrowding, chronic stress, injury, disease, and premature death are not failures of the system, but consequences of its design. Weak or unwanted chicks are routinely discarded at birth. Those who survive endure artificial light cycles, constant noise, ammonia-laden air, and physical exhaustion until their bodies can no longer sustain production.
The Image as Testimony
The illustration presents an unbroken corridor of cages and bodies, stretching beyond visibility, capturing the scale and anonymity imposed by industrial confinement. Birds are stacked in rigid rows, their individuality erased by repetition, density, and enclosure. Those in the foreground press against one another, while countless others recede into darkness, suggesting a system without beginning or end.
This image reflects a reality where existence is defined by restriction, where space is measured in inches, movement is rationed, and life unfolds entirely within structures built for containment. The absence of sky, landscape, or horizon reinforces the total removal of natural context, emphasising how these animals are denied not only freedom, but any experience of the world beyond the shed walls.
A Declaration Against Disposable Life
“No living being should breathe their first breath in a place designed for their last.”
This statement confronts the moral rupture at the heart of industrial poultry farming, a system where birth and death are deliberately collapsed into the same confined environment. It challenges the normalisation of lives brought into existence already destined for exhaustion, injury, and disposal, with no meaningful opportunity to live beyond function.
The message rejects the idea that suffering can be justified by efficiency, demand, or tradition. It affirms that a life reduced to output is not a life honoured, and that confinement from first breath to final moment is not necessity, but systemic injustice.
Each piece stands as A Declaration of Freedom for All Beings, rejecting the reduction of living bodies to units of yield and refusing a system that treats confinement, exhaustion, and erasure as acceptable outcomes of production.
Wear Your Values
This is a refusal to accept confinement as normal.
A stand against systems that engineer life for depletion and replacement.
A declaration that sentient beings are not disposable resources.
Wear your values in defence of space, dignity, and the right of all beings to experience life beyond cages.
