A Collaboration with Shrubsy Art
Created for WildSpirit Testament by Shrubsy Art, this piece brings Lauren’s distinctive wildlife illustration into a statement against hunting and the laws that have failed to bring it fully to an end.
A fox and hare run through tangled brambles and muted woodland foliage, surrounded by the landscape to which they belong. Painted in Lauren’s delicate, nature-led style, neither animal is presented as quarry or as part of a blood sport. They are simply shown as they should be seen: living beings in their own world.
The gentleness of the artwork stands in stark contrast to the reality it confronts.
A Ban Weakened by Loopholes Is No Ban at All.
The Hunting Act 2004 prohibited hunting wild mammals with dogs in England and Wales, subject to specified exemptions, and outlawed hare coursing events. Yet more than two decades later, the pursuit of wild animals with dogs has not disappeared.
Trail hunting emerged after the Act as an ostensibly lawful alternative to traditional hunting, with hounds following a pre-laid scent rather than a live animal. The UK Government now acknowledges that the practice can result in wild animals, including foxes and hares, being injured or killed when hounds pick up their scent. In 2026, the Government consulted on proposals to prohibit trail hunting in England and Wales.
Hares face another form of pursuit too. Illegal hare coursing, in which dogs are used to chase hares, has continued despite being prohibited. Further legislation came into force in 2022 specifically to strengthen enforcement, including new offences relating to trespassing with the intention of searching for or pursuing hares with dogs.
Lauren’s decision to place the fox and hare together therefore broadens the testimony beyond a single species or a single form of hunting.
Different animals. Different forms of pursuit. The same fundamental question: what is a ban worth when the animals it was intended to protect can still be hunted?
The Artwork
Lauren’s unmistakable woodland aesthetic feels made for these animals.
Warm rust and earthy brown bring the fox and hare forward through layers of muted botanical greens, while soft parchment tones carry the words at the centre of the piece. Brambles, branches and leaves surround both animals, placing them firmly within the British landscape rather than within the human traditions that have turned them into targets.
Both are shown in motion. There are no hunters, no hounds and no depiction of violence. Instead, Lauren asks us to focus on the lives themselves.
That contrast gives the artwork its power. Its almost storybook gentleness draws us towards two familiar inhabitants of our countryside, while the words running between them force us to confront a much harsher reality.
A ban weakened by loopholes is no ban at all.
Art as Testimony
As a vegan artist whose work is rooted in wildlife and the natural world, Lauren brings something unmistakably her own to WildSpirit Testament.
Her interpretation does not document hunting by showing its violence. It bears witness by showing who that violence threatens.
The fox.
The hare.
Wild lives that belong to these landscapes without being chased, terrorised or killed for sport.
Wear the Testimony
This unisex-fit edition carries an original Shrubsy Art illustration created for WildSpirit Testament.
It is a statement against the continued pursuit of wild animals in the name of sport and tradition, and against protection that exists in legislation but fails to protect them in reality.
A Declaration of Freedom for All Beings.
