This piece accompanies a written testimony.

This work exists For The Animals, not as symbol, not as metaphor, and not as an expression of personal gain.

The wider record is preserved as each letter is released, with access shared through Letters of Witness.

Each testimony image is intentionally framed with a clean, light border as part of the record, and the embroidered emblem is individually executed on every made-to-order garment, with natural variation in thread colour and finish.

Mock-up imagery is illustrative. Slight variations may occur in the final garment, reflecting its individual production.

A Statement Against the Exploitation of Motherhood

This women’s tee confronts the reality of the dairy industry, a system sustained through forced impregnation, reproductive control, and the routine breaking of maternal bonds. Milk production is not a by-product of care, but the outcome of deliberate intervention, where a cow’s body is managed as a resource rather than respected as a living being.

Cows are repeatedly impregnated to keep milk flowing, their bodies confined to cycles dictated by profit rather than wellbeing. Birth does not bring rest or safety. Instead, it triggers separation. Calves are removed within hours or days, denying both mother and baby the most fundamental relationship in nature. Mothers vocalise, search, and grieve, while calves are isolated, confined, or killed. Male calves are commonly slaughtered or raised briefly for veal, while females are kept alive only to replace their mothers, inheriting the same fate.

This industry depends on erasing emotional truth. Attachment becomes an inconvenience. Grief is ignored. Motherhood is reduced to a function, stripped of meaning, agency, and compassion.

Image Narrative: A Moment of Forced Separation

The image captures a moment of quiet devastation: a mother cow restrained behind metal bars as her calf is physically pulled away from her. The mother’s gaze is fixed and alert, her body tense but powerless, while the calf recoils in fear, its small frame caught between instinct and force. The human hands intruding into the scene are calm and deliberate, emphasising how normalised this violence has become within industrial systems.

There is no spectacle here, only proximity. The closeness between mother and baby heightens the cruelty of their separation, revealing the emotional intelligence and bond that dairy production requires us to ignore. The image does not depict an exception, but a routine act carried out millions of times, hidden behind neutral language and pastoral imagery.

The Truth This Design Speaks

"To turn motherhood into a mechanism and babies into byproducts is the deepest betrayal of nature."

This statement confronts the moral rupture at the core of the dairy industry. Motherhood, one of the most instinctive, protective, and sacred relationships in the natural world is deliberately repurposed into a tool of extraction. Birth becomes a trigger for loss. Babies are no longer individuals, but obstacles or commodities. Care is replaced with calculation.

The slogan rejects the idea that this suffering is incidental or unavoidable. It names the injustice directly: a system that depends on the destruction of maternal bonds cannot be ethical, humane, or natural. It challenges the consumer to recognise what is taken; not just milk, but trust, connection, and life itself.

Each piece stands as A Declaration of Freedom for All Beings, rejecting the commodification of reproduction, motherhood, and existence.

Colour Significance

This design is rendered in restrained, natural colour to remove nostalgia and expose reality. The warm earth tones of the cow and calf emphasise their vulnerability and individuality, grounding them as living beings rather than symbols or products. Soft browns and muted oranges reflect warmth, care, and life qualities systematically denied within the dairy industry.

The cooler greens in the background echo the illusion of pastoral calm often used to mask industrial cruelty, while the muted blue of the human clothing introduces emotional distance, reinforcing the imbalance of power between those who control and those who suffer. Together, these colours dismantle sanitised narratives and anchor the scene firmly in the present, not as tradition, but as ongoing injustice.

Wear Your Values

This is a refusal to accept motherhood as a tool of extraction.
A stand against systems that profit from separation and grief.
A declaration that maternal bonds are not expendable.

Wear your values in defence of connection, compassion, and the right of all beings to remain with their young.
