This piece accompanies a written testimony.
This work exists For The Animals, not as symbol, not as metaphor, and not as an expression of personal gain.
The wider record is preserved as each letter is released, with access shared through Letters of Witness.
Each testimony image is intentionally framed with a clean, light border as part of the record, and the embroidered emblem is individually executed on every made-to-order garment, with natural variation in thread colour and finish.
Mock-up imagery is illustrative. Slight variations may occur in the final garment, reflecting its individual production.
A Statement Against Cruelty Preserved Through Loopholes
This unisex tee confronts the persistence of fox hunting, a practice widely rejected by the public yet repeatedly preserved through legal ambiguity, cultural tradition, and political hesitation. Though presented as prohibited, the pursuit of foxes with hounds has not disappeared. Instead, it has adapted, continuing under structures that allow the appearance of reform while enabling the practice itself to endure.
Foxes are intelligent, highly adaptable mammals capable of forming territories, raising families in shared dens, and navigating landscapes shaped by human expansion with remarkable awareness. They rely on memory, instinct, and acute senses to survive within environments that increasingly restrict their freedom. Within the culture of hunting, however, these lives are reduced to quarry, pursued across fields and woodland by packs of hounds in a spectacle framed as heritage rather than harm.
The Hunting Act was introduced as a prohibition on this pursuit. In practice, many hunts now operate under the banner of trail hunting, a practice in which hounds are said to follow an artificially laid scent. Investigations, prosecutions, and recorded incidents have repeatedly shown how this system can function as a cover, allowing the pursuit of live foxes to continue while maintaining the appearance of legal compliance.
What remains is not a relic of the past, but a tradition sustained through loopholes, where cruelty survives by adapting to the very laws intended to end it.
Image as Testimony
The artwork captures a solitary fox paused along a worn countryside path as evening light settles across the landscape. The animal stands within tall grasses and hedgerow growth, its body turned toward the viewer while the valley beyond stretches into the distance.
Warm lights glow faintly from scattered buildings across the fields, quiet reminders of human life continuing beyond the fox’s awareness. Fences, pathways, and cultivated land reveal a countryside shaped and organised by human control, while the fox remains a living presence navigating its edges.
There is no violence depicted in the image, yet its possibility lingers in the atmosphere. The fox stands alert and composed, not as prey in motion but as an individual life within a landscape where pursuit can begin without warning.
The stillness of the moment invites recognition. The animal is not shown as an emblem of sport or folklore, but as a sentient being existing quietly within a system that has repeatedly declared its life expendable.
A Declaration of Moral Reckoning
“A ban weakened by loopholes is no ban at all.”
This statement confronts the contradiction at the heart of fox hunting legislation. When a practice is prohibited yet continues through technical reinterpretation, protection becomes symbolic rather than real.
The continued use of trail hunting illustrates how easily reform can be undermined. Presented as a lawful activity in which hounds follow an artificial scent, it has frequently created the conditions under which the pursuit of live foxes can still occur, shielded by ambiguity and difficult enforcement.
The slogan therefore rejects the illusion that cruelty has been resolved. A ban that allows the original harm to persist through exceptions does not end the practice it claims to prohibit; it simply alters the language used to defend it.
Each piece stands as A Declaration of Freedom for All Beings, affirming that justice cannot coexist with cruelty preserved through loopholes.
Colours Used & Their Significance
This Colour Edition artwork restores the fox to the landscape from which hunting traditions attempt to remove it, using natural colour to emphasise life, presence, and belonging.
The fox’s coat appears in warm rust and amber tones, highlighting the vitality and alert intelligence of a wild animal fully adapted to its environment. These colours emphasise individuality and presence, reminding the viewer that the subject of the hunt is not an abstraction, but a living being.
Surrounding grasses and hedgerows appear in layered greens and muted earth tones, grounding the fox within a countryside that should offer refuge rather than threat. The fading light of sunset casts soft gold across the valley, while distant lights begin to glow from homes beyond the fields.
This contrast between natural landscape and distant human presence reinforces the tension at the centre of the image. The countryside appears peaceful, yet decisions made within those distant buildings determine whether the fox standing quietly in the foreground will be allowed to remain part of it.
The warm parchment tones framing the artwork echo the visual language of record and testimony, reinforcing that this image serves not as decoration, but as witness.
