This piece accompanies a written testimony.

This work exists For The Animals, not as symbol, not as metaphor, and not as an expression of personal gain.

The wider record is preserved as each letter is released, with access shared through Letters of Witness.

Each testimony image is intentionally framed with a clean, light border as part of the record, and the embroidered emblem is individually executed on every made-to-order garment, with natural variation in thread colour and finish.

Mock-up imagery is illustrative. Slight variations may occur in the final garment, reflecting its individual production.

A Statement Against Violence Preserved Through Loopholes

This women’s tee confronts the persistence of fox hunting, a practice widely condemned yet repeatedly protected through legal ambiguity, cultural tradition, and political hesitation. Though presented as prohibited, the pursuit of foxes with hounds has not vanished. Instead, it has adapted, continuing under structures designed to preserve the appearance of reform while allowing the practice itself to endure.

Foxes are intelligent, highly adaptable mammals capable of forming territories, raising families in shared dens, and navigating complex landscapes shaped by human expansion. They rely on acute awareness, memory, and instinct to survive in environments that increasingly restrict their freedom. Within the culture of hunting, however, these lives are reduced to quarry, pursued across fields and woodland by packs of hounds in an orchestrated spectacle framed as heritage rather than harm.

The Hunting Act was introduced as a prohibition on this pursuit. In practice, many hunts now operate under the banner of trail hunting, a practice in which hounds are said to follow an artificially laid scent. Investigations and recorded incidents have repeatedly shown how this system can function as a cover, enabling the continued chasing and killing of foxes while maintaining the appearance of legal compliance.

What remains is a tradition that survives not because cruelty disappeared, but because loopholes allowed it to continue under new language.

Image Narrative: A Life at the Edge of Pursuit

The image captures a solitary fox paused along a worn rural path at dusk, its body turned slightly toward the viewer while the landscape stretches quietly behind it. The animal stands within tall grasses and hedgerow growth, alert yet composed, occupying a countryside that appears peaceful but carries the unseen tension of human presence.

In the distance, warm lights glow from scattered buildings across the valley, suggesting life continuing comfortably beyond the fox’s awareness. Fencing and pathways reveal land shaped and organised by human control, while the fox remains a living presence navigating its boundaries.

There is no violence depicted in the frame. Instead, the image captures a moment before threat becomes visible, a quiet pause in a landscape where pursuit can begin without warning.

The fox is not portrayed as prey in motion, but as an individual life within a system that has repeatedly declared it expendable. The stillness of the moment asks the viewer to recognise the being at the centre of the debate, not the tradition that seeks to justify its destruction.

The Truth This Design Speaks

“A ban weakened by loopholes is no ban at all.”

This statement confronts the contradiction at the heart of fox hunting legislation. When a practice is prohibited yet continues through technical reinterpretation, protection becomes symbolic rather than real.

The continued use of trail hunting demonstrates how easily reform can be undermined. Presented as a lawful activity in which hounds follow an artificial scent, it has frequently provided the conditions under which the pursuit of live foxes can still occur, shielded by ambiguity and difficult enforcement.

The slogan therefore rejects the illusion that cruelty has been resolved. A ban that allows the original harm to continue through exceptions does not end the practice it claims to prohibit; it simply changes the language used to defend it.

The message calls for clarity and accountability. Laws written to protect life must do so in reality, not only in principle.

Each piece stands as A Declaration of Freedom for All Beings, rejecting traditions sustained through loopholes and affirming that justice cannot coexist with cruelty preserved by design.

Colour Significance

This design uses natural colour to restore the fox to the landscape from which it is so often removed in narratives of sport and control.

The fox’s coat is rendered in warm amber and rust tones, reflecting vitality, alertness, and the quiet intelligence of a wild animal fully adapted to its environment. These colours emphasise the individuality and presence of the fox as a living being rather than a target.

The surrounding grasses and hedgerows appear in layered greens and muted earth tones, grounding the fox within a living countryside that should offer refuge rather than threat. The soft golden light of the setting sun stretches across the valley, casting warmth over the scene while distant lights begin to glow in the background.

This contrast between natural landscape and distant human presence reinforces the central tension of the image: a wild life existing peacefully within a landscape shaped by human decisions that may ultimately determine its fate.

The warm parchment tones framing the artwork echo the visual language of documentation and record, reinforcing that this image functions not as decoration, but as testimony.

Wear Your Values

This is a refusal to accept cruelty preserved through loopholes.
A stand against traditions sustained through ambiguity and denial.
A declaration that protection must mean protection in reality.

Wear your values in defence of accountability, compassion, and the right of all beings to exist without being pursued for sport.
